GEO and AIO Tracking Tools for 2027 Compared: Peec, Otterly, Semrush and More

GEO and AIO Tracking Tools for 2027 Compared: Peec, Otterly, Semrush and More

For most companies, there are three sensible starting points in 2027. Otterly.AI is the cheapest transparent entry (from $29 per month). Peec AI has the strongest feature set for teams that run GEO as a real channel, but starts at €85 per month. If you already pay for Semrush, Ahrefs or Sistrix, check their AI modules first. More important than the tool is which prompts you measure. That choice remains human work.

We compared 16 tools against the same criteria. All figures come from the vendors' own pages as of 27 September 2026. Some vendors show euros or US dollars depending on region, so check the price for your region before buying.

For the SEO tools you need alongside tracking, see part one of this series: SEO and GEO Tools for 2027: What Actually Helps.

What GEO tracking measures, and what it doesn't

A GEO tracking tool sends a fixed list of prompts to AI systems such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Google AI Overviews. It then checks whether your brand is mentioned, in which position, in what tone, and which sources the AI cites. That produces metrics such as visibility, share of voice and sentiment.

Before comparing numbers, know three limits:

1. Answers vary. The same question does not always return the same answer. A peer-reviewed study (Ouyang et al., ACM TOSEM) shows that ChatGPT often returns different results for identical requests, even at temperature 0. A single measurement is a sample. Trends over several weeks are what carry meaning.

2. Prompts are synthetic. There is no public "search volume" for ChatGPT prompts. Tools measure questions that you or the vendor wrote. Search Engine Land calls this the "hidden denominator": many tools extrapolate from a small prompt sample to an unknown total. Measure the wrong prompts and you measure the wrong thing very precisely.

3. API and interface give different answers. What a model's developer API returns is not what a user sees in the ChatGPT app. Peec, Semrush, Ahrefs, Similarweb and Writesonic state that they query the real interfaces. For Scrunch, Rankscale, AthenaHQ, Knowatoa, Trakkr, Goodie and Sistrix, we found no statement either way.

The takeaway: GEO tracking is a directional instrument. It shows trends, gaps against competitors, and the sources AI systems trust. It is not an exact ranking like classic search.

Our comparison criteria

  • Entry price per month and what it includes

  • Number of prompts in the entry plan and how often they run

  • AI engines covered: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Claude, Microsoft Copilot and others

  • Market and language support, including German-language prompts for the DACH region

  • Features: source and citation analysis, sentiment, competitor benchmarking, API, MCP, exports

  • Methodology: does the tool query the real interface, the API, or say nothing?

  • Autopilot features: does the tool create or publish content itself?

The tools in detail

Otterly.AI: the cheapest transparent entry

Otterly is based in Austria. The Lite plan costs $29 per month for 15 prompts tracked daily in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Google AI Mode and Gemini cost $9 each on top, Claude $29. From the Standard plan ($189, 100 prompts) you get API, MCP and a Looker Studio connector.

Strength: low entry barrier, clear pricing, good for a first test.

Weakness: 15 prompts are enough for a first read, but not for several products or audiences. Sentiment is hard to find in the dashboard.

Best for: freelancers, small teams, and anyone who wants to try GEO first.

Peec AI: strong, but the entry price is high

Peec is based in Berlin and, in 2026, has the broadest feature set among tools with public pricing. Beyond visibility, position, sentiment and share of voice, Peec offers detailed source analysis, product-level shopping tracking, detection of ads in AI answers, fact-checking of AI claims about your brand, AI crawler insights, plus an API and MCP server. Peec focuses on measurement and recommendations and does not publish content to your site. German prompts and other countries can be tracked at no extra cost.

The criticism is price. The Starter plan costs €85 per month for 50 prompts in 3 of 6 engines. Each additional engine costs €25 per month on Starter, so tracking all six comes to about €160 per month. Multiple countries require the Advanced plan at €425 per month. Claude, Grok and DeepSeek are only available on Enterprise.

To be fair: per prompt, Peec is not more expensive than Otterly. At entry level, a prompt costs about €1.70 per month on Peec and about $1.93 on Otterly. The issue is the entry barrier and the cost of full coverage. For a small company that just wants to test GEO, €85 to €160 per month is a different decision than $29.

Best for: marketing and SEO teams running GEO as an ongoing channel, and agencies. For a first test, Otterly is often the better start.

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

Semrush sells AI visibility as a separate toolkit. The Base plan costs about €95 per month on annual billing and includes 25 prompts for ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity. Semrush documents clearly that responses are captured from real requests and not via model APIs. Claude and Copilot are only in the Enterprise product.

Weakness: 25 prompts is thin for the price, and native support for non-English markets is not documented for the AI toolkit.

Best for: teams already on Semrush who want AI visibility next to their SEO data.

Ahrefs Brand Radar

Brand Radar works differently from most tools. Ahrefs derives prompts from its keyword database and queries the public AI interfaces, which produces a large market-wide index. Full AI coverage costs $199 per engine or $699 for all, on top of an Ahrefs plan. Custom prompt tracking is a separate add-on from about €47 per month.

Weakness: high price, no sentiment, and ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot only refresh monthly. Prompts come from search data, not real chat conversations.

Best for: teams on Ahrefs with budget who want market overviews more than their own prompt lists.

Sistrix: the obvious choice for existing Sistrix customers

Sistrix has built AI visibility into every paid Toolbox plan, free during beta. The START plan (€119 per month) includes 100 prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Data is held in Europe, German prompts are explicitly covered, and there is an MCP server. A "Prompt Research" feature groups real user questions into topics with volume and intent. We found this in no other tool.

Weakness: only four engines, with no Gemini, Copilot or Claude. Sistrix does not disclose its methodology.

Best for: DACH teams already using Sistrix, where GEO tracking comes at practically no extra cost.

Similarweb AI Search Intelligence

Similarweb starts at $99 per month (annual) with 150 prompts. What sets it apart is AI referral traffic measured through the Similarweb panel. You see how much traffic ChatGPT and other AI systems actually send to websites, including competitors.

Weakness: prompt tracking is newer than the core product.

Best for: teams that want competitor traffic and AI visibility in one view.

Rankscale

Rankscale is based in Vienna and covers ten engines on every plan, including Claude, Grok, DeepSeek and Mistral. Billing runs on credits: the Pro plan costs €99 per month with 1,200 credits. An Essentials plan from €20 is listed but not described in detail.

Weakness: no methodology disclosure, and the credit model makes costs harder to plan.

Best for: teams that want to compare many engines at a low price.

More tools: SE Ranking, Trakkr, Writesonic, AthenaHQ, Knowatoa, Goodie, Scrunch, Profound, Evertune

  • SE Ranking offers AI tracking as an add-on from €63 per month (annual), but only on top of a base plan from €109. Realistic cost is well above the advertised price.

  • Trakkr starts at $100 (€93) per month for one brand with 50 daily prompts across eight engines, including Claude, Grok and DeepSeek. MCP is included on all plans, with a 14-day trial.

  • Writesonic GEO combines AI tracking with a content tool and AI article writer, from $79 per month on annual billing. Writesonic openly states that it queries the AI interfaces.

  • AthenaHQ has a free entry with one-time credits. The first paid plan costs $295 and covers one region only.

  • Knowatoa costs $59 per month and covers seven engines, with weekly tracking. See below for its content agent.

  • Goodie starts at $399 per month. The entry plan covers only five engines, and Gemini and Claude are missing until the $999 Pro plan.

  • Scrunch contradicts itself on its own website: the pricing page and FAQ give different plan names, prompt counts and engines. Entry from $250 per month on annual billing.

  • Profound removed its self-serve plans in September 2026. Only a free 7-day trial and enterprise contracts remain.

  • Evertune starts at $800 per month and sells only through sales. It targets large brands.

Be careful with trackers that write content on autopilot

Some trackers go a step further and write the content themselves.

  • Knowatoa has a content agent ("Connie") that drafts on a schedule and can be set to auto-approve content. This is available from the Starter plan.

  • Profound offers "AI Marketer" agents that rewrite pages and stage them in your CMS.

  • Evertune lists "unlimited content generation" on Enterprise.

Automated drafts can save time. Publishing automatically without human review contradicts everything the data shows about AI citations: sources get cited when they add something of their own. Why this is also a spam risk with Google is covered in part one of this series. Our recommendation: use tracking tools to measure, and keep the decision about what gets published with your team.

Add free first-party data to any tool. Since June 2026, Google Search Console shows performance in AI Overviews and AI Mode. Since February 2026, Bing Webmaster Tools shows how often Copilot cites your pages. And GA4 shows how much traffic from AI assistants actually reaches your site; see our guide to GA4's AI Assistant channel.

Tracking is half the work

The best tool is of little use if the prompt list is wrong. Good prompts come from real customer questions: sales calls, support tickets, forums and search data. They cover the stages of a buying decision, beyond your brand name. AI can prepare this list, but someone with market knowledge has to make the call. Then comes the actual work: building content and mentions that AI systems want to cite.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between GEO and AIO?

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) covers optimization for AI answers in general, for example in ChatGPT or Perplexity. AIO usually refers to Google AI Overviews. Most tracking tools measure both.

How many prompts do I need?

For a first overview, 15 to 50 prompts on your key topics are enough. For reliable trends across several products or markets, 100 or more makes sense.

Why is Peec AI more expensive than Otterly?

Per prompt, Peec is not more expensive at entry level. But its entry price is almost three times higher, and every engine beyond three costs extra. In return, Peec offers more features, such as shopping tracking, fact-checking and deeper source analysis.

Which tool is best for the German-speaking market?

Peec AI and Sistrix explicitly support German prompts. For most other tools it is possible but not clearly documented. Test with your own German prompts before buying.

Can I measure GEO visibility for free?

Partly. Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools show AI performance data at no cost. AthenaHQ and Profound offer free entry options with limits. For ongoing tracking of your own prompts, you need a paid tool.
